They are made by Jackie and Marlene Miller.

We make driftwood chairs!
Driftwood chairs are arguably the most authentic traditional Orkney chairs and Scapa Crafts are unique in making them. These chairs are made of driftwood just like the old original chairs. Click on the link to see our range of driftwood chairs.

As well as driftwood we also make oak and walnut chairs. Please click on the links to view.

Jackie takes pride in the quality and finish of his chairs

Each chair carries my signature and the Scapa Crafts quality seal.

I stitch every chair. Every back is different but every one has to be just right before I’m happy. A strawback can involve several hundred individual stitches and each one has to be right.

The straw we use is locally grown in Orkney ; the long, strong, golden straw is perfect for the strawwork of our chairs.

We take as much care with the joinery work.

Our joiners are excellent and we take particular pride in the quality of the finish and polish of the chairs.

We know it may be possible to buy cheaper Orkney chairs but we put the extra time into the chairs and refuse to compromise on the quality.

If you are handmaking a piece of beautiful furniture which will last not only your own lifetime but into the next, you want it to be right, perfect in fact.

We want you to feel you have bought something very special as with every chair I feel I have made something special.

Orkney Chairs have been made for generations, each maker with his own peculiarities and passions, each producing a totally unique chair, all however with a strawback and wooden base.
